No offense to anyone who noticed his looks first I just wanna see if I’m not the only one. I can’t be, can I? There are others there has to be.

It’s funny, because I think I may have, and then I think I may not have.

I know that the past me would’ve been completely appalled at this man and his alien-like appearance, but after seeing his performance in SHERLOCK, I immediately fell in love with his everything.

Not entirely sure which came first S:

I will say that when I first saw his face here on tumblr (I even know exactly which photo it was.. it was with him and Matt Smith on the front cover of Radio Times) I was strangely fascinated by his face, but didn’t think too much of it then. But when I did watch Sherlock, I’d definitely say I was drawn more by his talent in acting more than his looks. Then I started following more Sherlock blogs who post more pictures of him, watched more of his films/show and learned more about him as who he is, then the transformation was complete. I was all around just attracted to his talents, his kindness, his compassion, his dedication to his work, his dorkiness and to his looks.  

People are going to go ‘pfffft yeah right’ at me, considering how much his face is on my blog but really. I remember being turned off of Sherlock for a long time because every time I saw his face on my dash it really creeped me out TBH. You have to admit that his face is kind of weird, and yeah, it made me not want to watch the show. And then I was talking to Coey and Shy at AWA last year and admiring all of their Sherlock art and told them why I wasn’t watching it and they were like “NO JUST DO IT YOU WONT EVEN NOTICE HIS FACE” and they bribed me with stickers so I was like “Yeah, okay” and then instead of not noticing his face I was completely AMAZED by his acting. There’s something about the way his body moves and how he just fits into the character. It’s amazing. 

When I finished Sherlock I immediately watched To The Ends of The Earth (because Netflix) and was like “THIS CAN NOT BE THE SAME PERSON”. I am always just in AWE of how radically (and yet subtly) different he is in every role.

He inspired me to take acting classes at 26 years of age even though drama and theatre was something I’d never been brave enough to attempt before. I just want to have some sort of inkling as to how someone can do what he does.

I think he actually is the first actor I’ve admired for their talent before their face.

I have a distinct thing for tall skinny Brit guys, but I wasn’t actually interested in Sherlock at all to begin with. The Sherlock mythos had always struck me as a “boys’ club,” and not one that I was particularly interested in. Then I watched the first half of the unaired version of the pilot on YouTube, and was fascinated. The show drew me in with humor, and the excellent relationship between Sherlock and John. I have to admit, I became entranced with Sherlock for the portrayal of brilliance and sociopathy. Tall skinny genius antisocial snarky Brit guys? Just… push all my buttons, and then hold ‘em down for a while, why don’t you.

The actor himself… I love the character, but I know perfectly well that the actor is not the character. I don’t really know anything about the actor; I haven’t seen him in anything else (yet), and I have to admit that I found his gingerness a bit disappointing (I really like the wild black hair). But finding out that he will be playing Smaug… that’s like an extra bonus button, there. Just go ahead and lock them all down.

I’m actually disappointed that he’s going to play another character in the movie as well—I don’t know who, but I’d put money on an elf, and that’s the character that’s going to get all the art and fanfic attention with Bilbo, which is dumb, because it’s obvious that the interactions between Bilbo and Smaug parallel John and Sherlock’s relationship much more accurately, and besides DRAGON. It’s going to take fan attention away from Smaug and put it once again on “ooh what a pretty elf” and GRUMP. Fuckin’ elves.
